Winsted, Minnesota - Millerbernd Lighting proudly announces their involvement in the engineering and fabrication of the custom LED light wands installed in Detroit's Midtown Loop Greenway.
The Midtown Loop Greenway loop is located in the historic and cultural center of a massive redevelopment project in Midtown Detroit. The project required unique lighting and as such custom light wands were designed and selected to add to the artistic and cultural quality of the district. The LED light wands were designed as iconic light features to highlight the primary public intersections and the major changes in alignment of the greenway.
"We selected linear style light wands to add a sculptural element that improved and helped to clearly define the public the boundaries of the greenway," said Brian Charlton, senior landscape engineer for Smith Group JJR. "During the day the tall triangular forms create an interesting and unique element for the urban environment and at night the green glow of the lights attract the public's attention."
"Millerbernd Lighting had the privilege to work on this custom streetscape project," said Mitch Gaida, Millerbernd Lighting's national sales director. "We were chosen to work with Smith Group JJR, to build this unique custom fixture utilizing LED light sources and special molded acrylic panels, with perforated covers to match the site furnishings."
Through careful design and engineering, Smith Group JJR and Millerbernd Lighting were able to deliver a unique custom lighting feature to tie in the project of the 1.8-mile shared-use trail that accommodates pedestrians, as well as cyclists with many amenities such as bike racks, lockers, dog and human drinking fountains, benches, and LED-lit paths that make the greenway a safe and popular route.
