When the U.S. Navy required a custom lighting solution for a re-fueling structure and related signage, they turned to Millerbernd Lighting. The naval re-fueling structure had challenges with salt and corrosion and ease of maintenance access, so along with Quad-J Electric, the projects electrical contractor, we worked closely to address the Navy’s need in designing, manufacturing and installing an environmentally conducive and cost-effective custom solution.
Considering the corrosive marine elements, unique mounting criteria and required photometric layout, we designed a custom solution by modifying existing Millerbernd catalogue fixtures to match this unique application. By using Series 316 stainless steel in the engineering and fabrication of the poles and adjustable mounting arms solved the corrosion issue. Along with these features, we incorporated custom architectural standards that utilized hinged bases to ease maintenance access when replacing the lamp or ballast.
The custom solution exceeded the Navy’s expectations and created a unique pier lighting package constructed of Series 316 stainless steel that will last for years to come. With custom designed poles and UL approved stainless steel fixtures, Millerbernd Lighting once again—created a quality, cost-effective solution.
